Took my suspect starter moter to my auto elecrician this am, he is going to look at it but says they are very complex and wonderd if he could get a simpler one which will fit.
The existing one is a CA 45F with 13 teeth.
Does anyone know of a replacement ( this is the third time it has packed up)?
Sorry for my heavy information demands but time has got critical ( doesnt it always go wrong then??) DiPerk inform me that this part is no longer available so sourcing an alternative that will fit is now a bit more important.
Regards.

The problem is that I suspect that yours is a two stage starter motor. (I can't tell you for sure as remember all the numbers on these thing!)

They are complex to fix for some auto-electricians. In betwen University and College I worked as an auto-electrician (I got the job on the strength of being and ex scientific officer in a Goverrment Research Lab - don't ask why that counted...). Anyway there was only one person in the garage out of a staff of eight who could rebuild some of the more complex starters. All sorts of adjustments to be made for it to work properly, and very hard to test. (The simpler starters were tested with a piece of hard wood held against the pinion to check that they had a bit of torque behind the motor!)

Try another auto-electrician who knows what he is talking about and can rebuild the thing properly, or get a new one?

Yes thats what I thought the electrician was saying. I think his concerns were more about testing so that he could ( hand on heart) say it was fixed.
Sounds like a new one is no longer possible . Hopefully one of our experts will come along and tell me about an 'off the shelf' direct replacement which is cheap and indestructable.
Well we can hope!!
Regards

Found this one on Ebay:-
Item number:320236022257
£295 less £20 for returning your old one. With one year warranty. Two available. Doesn't say whether new or recon'
Bit expensive but may be a good long term investment!

Thanks PCUK have emailed several advertisers, saw the one you refer to but it looks different than mine ( which may of course be non standard) which , should anyone have one in their shed, is stamped CA 45F and has 13 teeth. ( 3 less than me!!)
Thanks again
