Apparently the "kind" way is to put them in cold water and bring it to the boil - oxygen is much less soluble in warm water than cold, so the poor thing suffocates painlessly (allegedly) before that water gets too hot to cause suffering.

No practical experience 'cos boat's too small for pots and can't afford to buy lobster! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Even kinder is to put them in water which has been previously boiled then allowed to cool. Apparently this quickly kills them without the associated trauma of heating. Once dead, bring to the boil and cook normally.

[/ QUOTE ]When we lived on the East Yorkshire coast I had a mate who had no trouble catching them. Scuba gear and the handy door in the commercial pots meant a pick of the crop.
Also the big muthas that couldn't get into the pots were a banquet's worth.
