Well the Volvo Penta D3 110 fitted in my Merry Fisher 655 has done it again and stalled when 20 odd miles out to sea !
In a previous thread a couple of weeks back I described how the " Water in Fuel " alarm had been activated when returning from a fishing trip. As a result I drained the pre fuel filter bowl and fitted a new pre filter. I then unlocked the bleed bolt on top of the fuel filter proper on the side of the engine and pumped the primer button a few times. However only neat fuel appeared and I thus assumed therefore that there was no air in the fuel line between the pre-fuel filter and the fuel filter.
On my first trip after that , I had switched off the engine whilst drifting over a wreck. Approx. 30 minutes later , I re-started the engine. After 10 seconds the engine stalled. My immediate reaction was " Oh s**t. " However the engine immediately fired when I turned it over on the starter and did not give any furthur problem .
Then yesterday p.m. on another fishing trip , it did it again.
The engine runs fine, although staring from cold seems to be a little more difficult of late. The problem has only manifested itself since I replaced the pre fuel filter.
Is it possible that there is air somewhere in the fuel system ? If so how do I remove it ?
Volvo Paul ?
