The latest in government proposals, announced by Blunkett:

Stick £10 on speeding (sorry safety tax) camera fines, amongst other things, to pay for crime victim support

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3390315.stm>http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3390315.stm</A>

Can't we get rid of them before any of these ideas make it to reality?

And there was Baronness Scotland justifying it on the radio, people must learn to respect the law, and all the while only 60% of fines are actually paid!

Plonkers the lot of them, they've wasted every penny they had and are now desperate. God help us if they win the next election.

I am totally fed up with this corrupt, lying, inept government. They seek to deal with the irrelevent, whilst ignoring the real issues.

Riot and insurrection...the only answer!!!

AND i hear blair has access to WMD
which is apparently okay cos we are a democracy and would never tolerate a regime that punishes its citizens for driving to fast or stopping in a yellow box or start a war without any good reason

Why, oh why, has nobody suggested to national/local government that they could possibly reduce taxes/fines etc. simply by becoming more efficient and cutting their own costs. (Perhaps the police would care to take a hit on their pension fund just as I have.)

Is it because all the failed business suits are now employed by the government in an effort to reduce unemployment figures or use the poacher turned gamekeeper tactic.

How can any government body accept the fact that Camden City Council now employ four times as many persons as Ford UK !!

Oh, for heavens sake, don't get me going. I must the one of the few people still working my b......ks off in an engineering factory to support these w**kers in Whitehall.

Roll on the summer and get my boat back in the water. Its the only way I can escape. Besides, as I pass down the Thames I can yell all the idiots on the balcony at Westminster.

'Spose it's OK - PROVIDED they levy a tax on EVERY fine not just speeding offences. Just think how much money they could raise through taxing big corporate fines!

/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif.
Local paper .Kent Messenger.Reported that Deaths/injuries at known Black Spots throughout Kent about 140.Number of deaths/injuries for 12 months after introduction of cameras 75...All figuires approx and from memory.
Still thats 75 less visits the police will have to make to relatives and loved ones.
O and think of all of your precious tax money saved on the lifetime care needed for the ones that live.

Re: Even more barking mad proposal

Police should spend more time catching muggers, thieves etc. why should the motorist doing 40 in a 30 zone in Sheffield, have to pay a crime victim £5 or whatever in London he knows Bu**er all about!!

Re: Missing the Point!

30mph is not the issue, what i'm trying to say is once again the motorist picks up the tab again, not just speeding offences but take a look at what these extra "stealth taxes" are for.
Minor traffic offenders are being penalised, what the hell has this got to do with bringing misery to victims of serious crimes.....???

Re: Even more barking mad proposal

Actually we had a local Dorset man who proved conclusively that whilst being taxed stealthily for doing 52mph in a 30mph zone, he was actually crawling in traffic at 13mph. Considering that most stealthy fines come from cameras out of your normal area (you know where the local ones are) and you probably had no idea where, when and what speed you were doing, how many INNOCENT people are paying their taxes thus?

Re: Even more barking mad proposal

Back to the old arguement about the vast majority of cameras being nowhere near accident blackspots, and of perfectly safe dual carriageways having the speed limit restricted to 30mph and bunches of cameras put up overnight with no warning. The arguments are legion.

Most people seem to regard speed cameras as revenue generation means, and very little to do with safety

Re: ReProblem reading speedometer?

Hey miserable old git, don't tell me that with all the differing speed limits now in force on many roads you haven't inadvertently exceeded a set limit. I'm convinced they're now trying to confuse us sos they can then fine us!

Also read today that for late tax returns it's not only £100 fine but an extra £60 each day it's late plus another possible £3000 in July, expected to raise an additional £249M of revenue. They also estimate 4 million late returns, so there's £400,000,000 for nothing interest on tax due.

But of course non of this is extra taxation!!!
