Can I urge everyone who thinks they know of old or poorly marked moorings to go out and mark them clearly with I.D's, ( if not suitable to use right now it would be worth making that clear to boats ! ) moorings on harbour plans may be resurrected at the moment but these will soon be under the spotlight in your area.

Moorings are going to be at a premium in the not so distant future, and with the march of the conservationists if not marked clearly now, will be lost forever.

If you are in a club or at a yard where this may apply, please stir the person responsible, and help them before it's too late.

Allow plenty of time, harbour plans are notoriously inaccurate...

This is every bit as crucial as Studland Bay, that's not our sole focus !

shouldnt that read "may be lost forever"? If "will be lost forever" I feel you should quote the relevant official wording that says so, you must know what and where that is, otherwise you couldn't be so positive (or negative , depending on point of view!). If there is a need to campaign on this, it will be essential to have this information off pat, or rings will be made round you. Its no use saying "read it up for yourself" as is so often said on ther similar threads.

TamarMike,

Obviously I don't know what in particular you're referring to, but forever, no chance of reinstatement ?

Future generations are relying on what is done now; just because there may not be great demand right now, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that will change, look at the posts by people being priced out of marinas.

It may well be that moorings will be very valuable in future, and our generation will be praised or cursed by how much or little we do to secure our - all sailors - assets right now.

Firefly,

reasonable to ask for chapter and verse, I and Old Harry are looking up the precise details, but the gist is the MMO 'depositing on seabed', as in no-one shall do any !

I will come back with the precise wording, it may not be for a day or two as I'm off to play with my boat; feel free to remind me.

And it is definite BTW, 'will', not 'may'...:(

Nobody's going to take my new conservancy mooring away from me in Chichester Harbour, I'm keeping that for life!

They'll get a face full of rocket launchers if they can get past the mines :D

I'll post my mother in law on watch when I'm not around that will deter the blighters! :D

Hmm... fair game though, mother in law or boat - bombs away boys! lol
