I currently have a trot mooring in Dartmouth but I've been told it I highly unlikely I'll be able to get it again next year and that I shoul make alternative arrangements.

In that, I thought the Plymouth area would be Nice to try. Same drive time from Bristol give or take. Happy to consider Yealm or other tribs up the Plym.

Given the following can anyone recommend some moorings that might be available from April 2013?

1. Around the £1000 pa mark
2. Relatively near some abilities such as water (not critical)
3. Near parking of some description
4. Near some sort of yacht taxi service
5. Nice scenery
6. Prefer a trot to a swing.
7. Can dry if very soft mud

Moorings at Torpoint, might suit you.

I wouldn't have thought you had a chance at the Yealm. Saltash Sailing Club? Cargreen? Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club? Don't know the situation at any of these but gives you a starting point!

All good ideas and I can't see you paying £1000 for a trot mooring unless you offer it to them first. Trot moorings are more like £600 or so depending on size. You could add Diving Belle to the list as although they service moorings, I have been lead to believe they also administer/own some.

Weir Quay - They frequently advertise so presiumably moorings are still available
Weir Quay Marine are very expensive for what they are. I am given to understand that moorings in the same bit of river are available through Weir Quay yacht club (if they have any spare) for about 10% of the price.

Plymouth City Council administer moorings, but there's a waiting list. No harm in putting your name down.

You could also try the Cattewater Harbour Authority?

I agree with comments re the Yealm. Even locals go on a waiting list that is half a lifetime.

Consider joining us at Cargreen Yacht club?

Moorings are usually available for rent, and purchase. All are swinging moorings - deep and shallow water. 2 miles up river from Saltash. Quiet location with Boatwatch during the Season, and an active YC.

Beautiful location, but row yourself ashore.

pm me if you want any further info.

Northcave,

Not an answer to your question, but have you considered a mooring on the river Exe. Much closer and easier to get to from Bristol ? I get from home to my boat on the Exe in a little over an hour.

I'm on the Yealm. You won't get a nice low cost one in the main RYHA harbour area unless you are resident and live long enough to get to the top of the huge waiting list! However, further up the river is owned by Kitley Estate, and they rent out moorings up there. The chap you want to talk to is Rodney ******* of Kitley Estate.

Blimey - is that really his name?? You'd change it wouldn't you??! :D

Yes and maybe. (but it is not pronounced in the traditional way, rather like Mr. De'ath)

Some years ago I was able to get a temporary mooring in the Yealm as the owner was away on a long cruise.
I eventually came to the top of the RYHA list for a mooring after 10 years !!! (I believe it is much longer now)

Cheers,

Michael.

I keep my yacht at The Saltash Sailing Club, they have both Trot and Swinging moorings at reasonable costs.

Hmm yeah that is a possibility. Was hoping to do more of Cornwall but could be happy with exploring East for a season.

No he's very proud of the name *******. ****, I mean B a s t a r d. His family have owned the upper part of the river since Norman times - William Duke D'Normandy was better known as William D'B a s t a r d don't you know. Seems to have been a common name back then for the french!
