Moorings around Marlow

Hi All,

I'm considering putting my little (16ft) boat on a mooring, at least during the warmer months. Up until now we've kept it at home and trailed it in and out.

The obvious choice based on location would be Harleyford, but they seem not to be particularly flexible, wanting a whole year, and paid in advance.

Is there a nearby marina that will let you pay monthly, even if it is for the full year, but preferably from April to September. I'm not sure if the 6 month thing will work out, as they'll have an empty birth over winter not earning them anything.

There are some bankside moorings that belong to houses/flats which are often available to rent. Unfortunately I do not have any contacts, I knew someone once who kept their boat on one of the moorings near the bridge.

Could try Temple Marina just above Temple Lock but not sure if they have floating pontoons

Bourne End Marina has a little inlet for small boats, they might be flexible.

A few other options to look at

Ask the keeper at Hurley lock about the moorings round the back.

Contact Steve at SRB moorings and ask about Westfield farm. Field moorings with parking nearby (Ferry lane Medmenham). Nice spot without trouble.

May be worth investigating the moorings at Cookham just above the bridge. They are currently let as winter moorings which makes me think a summer spot for a small boat might be possible. I could be way off with this though.

You did imply you wanted a marina berth but on-river moorings are quite an attractive option for boating season use. Obviously the security situation is different on a public access site.

I'm considering investigating Temple and Bourne End marinas, as neither of them have a website to look at. (Looks like Bourne End did, but it's down)

I'd read up on the EA base moorings at locks, and spoken to a few of the lockies, who seem to think I'm likely to die before a spot becomes available (I'm only 40!). I suppose they're snapped up and kept as they're so cheap in comparison to marinas. Is it better to ask the EA or the lockies about vacant spots?

I hadn't heard about SRB moorings, but a quick google shows a lot of narrowboats tied up to trees against the natural bank. I think I'd be worried about the boat getting nicked there. Outboards are even being stolen from driveways around here!

DB Marine seem to have a few spots, but again, no info online so looks like I'll be doing a road trip around marinas! Further up the moorings seems right by Cookham Reach sailing club. Would they be the best contact?

Hambledon would suit but I think they prefer you to purchase a used boat. Communication is not so good, but persevere . Best to visit weekdays.

I'd forgotten about them! Ironically, as I did nearly buy a boat from them. Looks like their Island moorings are quite cheap too! Thanks!
