Mooring to trots - how ?

You don't need internet instructions, just good preparation. Fix front and rear mooring lines to the two bouys at each end of the trot. Tie bowlines in each line ready to drop over your cleats. Link the mooring lines (fore and aft) with a pick-up line that (1) is strong enough to haul on (2) has a brightly coloured float in the centre. When you leave the mooring drop the pick-up line as you depart (or place it on your neighbour's guardrail if it is a double trot). On return, pick up the line, and drop the bowlines over the cleats. You then have all the time you wish to finalise the lines. If the boat starts drifting after you have picked up the line (e.g. a gust catching the stern or an unexpected tidal flow) just haul on the pick-up line.
