Heading to the River Wey for a weeks cruise, out at Brentford this Thursday, high tide at Richmond is around 5pm. We will be buying a 24 hour Wey transit licence (£10) and would be interested in any recommendations for somewhere to moor to make the most of our time on the Thames. Coming back (15th) HT is around 9.30am so will moor not far from Teddington Lock. Narrowboat Salar - first cruise of the year as we are moored on the Slough Arm which was closed for months.

Slough Arm

with regards to the Slough Arm, are there any plans to get this linked up with the thames still?

People are still talking about it but I would think it is highly unlikely - one reason is a small schools called Eton College in the way plus many millions of pounds. Saying that it was the same as Milton Keynes to Bedford 5 years ago and that's being built in stages... CRT own land at the Slough basin and have grand ideas for that area. Commercially it would be a big winner for Slough - Slough-on-Thames (well close).

(AFAIK the transit licence is one way only. So I assume you'll need another for the return trip).
Moorings:-
Kingston (shopping)
Hampton Court - visit the Palace
Desborough Island - small park for relaxation and a BBQ (You could moor overnight and sneak across the main channel to the Wey whose lock opens at 09:00, could give you an extra overnight... nudge, nudge)

Worth clarifying that the wey transit is only valid for 24 hours from time of purchase , so really only covers you to get onto the Wey , it won't leave you a lot of time to look around on the thames.

If you want to maximise your time spent on the thames you will need to buy a visitors licence , which is sold in one day multiples , one week or one month.

Thanks teddington_lock - realised this. Given that Brentford to the Wey is just over 5 hours we will have plenty of time so was looking for suggestions to moor overnight and perhaps spend the next morning watching the boats go by somewhere idyllic. Somewhere not like Teddington Lock moorings ;-) Mosely will be about 3 hours so we could be there at about 6pm, plenty of scope and then we can easily get off the river before the 24hours is up.

Agree with dash ,the moorings at the golden gates are very nice.

Just wanted to clarify the Wey licence as there has been some confusion over it of late.
