Any one know where to get one? The problem I am trying to solve: boat is on a river mooring, pile with riser at the bow, buoy with chain and line astern, with a harbour master line that runs between the two. Currently, when leaving the mooring, I join "my" stern and bow lines together, with a pick up buoy to keep them afloat and easier to pick up on return. The problem is that the pick up buoy gets tangled with the HM line, and is very often difficult to see - especially when I have been on a longer trip. So, I think the Americans call it a pick up stick - any ideas where I can get one? Thanks as ever.

Whoops

Sorry should have been clearer - this is something akin to a dan buoy that the mooring lines are draped over and left out of the water.

I got mine in Trago Mills - so you would need to be in the south west to get one of theirs (if there's any in stock). Try searching Google images for "pick up buoy"

Blimey you blokes have got some money - here's a pic of a couple I made recently - every bit as good as anything commercial on the market - cost me all of £3 each to make.

But if you just want something basic to test whether it's what you want or not - there's also a graphic of what must be the cheapest Dhan Buoy in the world - will only cost you whatever a long cane costs. (about 50p from a garden centre) Everything else is free.

I use 8ft electrical conduit for the pole. If you run over it the tube will deform or break before it does any damage. Lead weight at bottom, pole goes thru a small soft mooring buoy. Light blue poly rope through the pole with loop on top. For pickup line you need to devise a simple bridle tied from the main mooring to the pole above and blow the buoy to keep the pole stays upright in a breeze.
