Mooring Options Medway

Starting to look at Mooring options in the Gillingham/Chatham area as the Longbow will be going in within a month or so.

Medway Yacht Club with all the associated fees works out at around £1400 and is probably my preferred option but finding £1400 with all the project costs is probably a bit much at the moment.

Segas is about the same so given a choice of the two would probably just go with the MYC

Medway Cruising Club £330 Membership and then £97 for mooring according to their website but these are self serviced where the member is responsible for maintenance and laying of a new mooring tackle if required.

So what exactly does that entail cost experience etc...........

Anywhere else I havent considered that is cheaper than Medway Yacht Club because as said I would probably just go there if finding £1400 initially wasnt an issue

Humm, Gillingham Marina used to have some River moorings out on buoys available, for and aft I recall, why not contact them; As I am sure a Dinghy and Car Parking would be included, plus the Chandlery and Workshops, plus Winter Standing, ?

Ready access to Deep Water and main channel available without negotiating the Many Many Medway moorings off St Marys Island and Upnor; OH plus plus not a Club, great PLUS ?

I cant offer you other options but as a member of MYC I can vouch for the fact that although its not cheap, the convenience of the pontoon, trot boat service, scrubbing trolley and friendly helpful staff do make it good value.

Thunderbolt pier may have space, pontoon, water under keel all tides. Not cheap but very convenient and handy for any work topside. Plus its actually in the dockyard.
 
I believe that Upnor Sailing Club is considerably cheaper than Medway Sailing Club which is right next door.
It also has a pontoon providing all tide access.
The last time I was in the area they were advertising for new members.That was about a year ago.
 
I would be very interested in Joining MYC but with the expense of the project nearing completion there is just no way I can
find the £1400 at the moment. Maybe I'll give it a year and save up then go from there

Swung by upnor for a gander this evening. does suit my budget and one of the MYC benifits is the choice of a couple of nice pubs for evenings with friends when they need a break. are there shower facilities????
 
There is also the Royal Engineer Yacht Club REYC who have the moorings in front of Upnor Castle with dinghy access from the Dockyard. prices are reasonable and there are vacant swinging moorings.

No I dont! The OP should note that MYC has moorings on both sides of the river so having to cross the entire river is still a possibility!
 
Have another look at Hoo Ness YC. Club house with facilities plus two dinghy parks, one of which is just upriver with all tide access. Big advantage is recently rebuilt scrubbing dock - saves on haul out charges
