SWMBO wants new lines; but she wants them in black to colour coordinate (etc)

Any recommendations as to where would be a good place to get some black rope for new mooring lines
- looking for approx 14mm doublebraid or the like
- we're London based

Also likely to be looking to give away some used fenders; new ones on order (SWMBO again)
- any suggestion on sites etc for "recycling" boating equipment?
- something like "freecycle" but for folks of our bent?

Some lockies collect "orphaned" fenders and sell them to passing boaters.
The proceeds go to charity - usually RNLI.

That way everyone benefits.

Give your local lock a bell and see if he's interested, or could ell you who does.

Marinaskip is worth it for the fenders (run by a forumite). Can't speak for your local swindlery but the one at Port Solent near us has an ends for a fiver box for rope and you can get some excellent bargians if you are not too picky on colour, its why our mooring lines are all bright yellow.

Btw, what size of fenders? I'm looking for a couple of biggish ones, 720 x 240 ore thereabouts ISTR. I'd like to be fussy about fenders and colour but the budget wont allow it, may have to invest in some socks some time.

Lindon Lewis marine sell black rope off the coil . Just tell them how many M you want . Dont know if they are the best for price but its where i get all my black rope from .

I bought some great black 14mm lines which I use as springs off eBay.
2 X 15m lines for £20 the pair.

Rope from e-bay

I bought some blue mooring lines off e-bay the beginning of the year. They ain't going to last long. Very soft to handle but not very hard wearing - the lay tends to kink under strain, and chafe.
But at the price easily affordable to replace I suppose.

Brilliant thanks Marinaskip looks like exactly the ticket!

As for our surplus fenders, definitely think I can help
Believe our new fenders arrive early this coming week
so we'll have a mixture of fenders available; definitely some big one 900x300
- PM me for details etc
