I've always used three strand nylon for mooring lines. I really the stretch and shock absorbsion they give. Has something changed about nylon line? Maybe at least here in France? On my THIRD set of dock lines in five years, and they're just not stretching like i remember;-)

Am I missing something? Is there a way to be sure of getting line that KEEPS its stretch?

I use three-strand polyester for mooring warps, as it is more resistant to UV degradation than nylon, which I only use for anchor rode (kept in the dark). Polyester is less stretchy than nylon, but you can use snubbers if your boat is subject to swell etc.

I use 12mm nylon for the initial stretch then have 18mm for the back up. At 15% stretch they have more give then the snubbers we used to use. Snubbers seem to last a year max on our berth. The 12mm eventually seems to get stretched solid so we wash them and they then appear to be rejuvenated.

Boat is 33ft and 5 000kg.
