mooring in S Ireland: one week

This summer (August) we would like to sail to S Ireland and go exploring inland for a week or so (probably hiring a car). Can anyone recommend a solution for leaving Tigger moored somewhere appropriate, fairly safe but not exorbitantly priced?

We left our boat for a month in Cork on one of the Royal Cork club's moorings, very safe and from memory not pricey either. It might be worth checking if the week you're thinking of coincides with Cork week ,when it might be a tad busy.
 
I left Amoret on a bouy in Kinsale a couple of years ago cost about 300 euro for a month the harbour master was very helpful if a bit laid back, well it was Ireland! He will run you out to and pick you up of the boat as well. The marina is typically expensive. Good communications both bus to cork city and airport and car hire. Baltimore is a little more remote with bus and taxi availlable taxi was expensive. Cork would als be an option providing you were a week or two either side of Cork week when you will be luck to find anything. All in all I would reccomend Kinsale as the best option.
 
If you can get a mooring at RCYC then then take by all means - very sheltered, also a super friendly yacht club with great bar and food. We have stayed there for a week twice in the last 3 years - when sailing from Poole to Largs in 2008, and going round Ireland in 2009. One of us needed to leave for Largs / London for 3/4 days each time and easy to get to airport / Cork, also plenty to do nearby. Only problem we experienced the first time was dogs are not allowed on the bus / trains in Ireland, but as you are hiring a car that's not a problem.

Many places to leave your yacht on a mooring, some mentioned above. In each location, Google will find you the local phone number or e-mail.

Your main problem is getting from the mooring to the car hire office, by bus or taxi. Again, Google "Car hire Cork"

Kinsale -- Kinsale Yacht Club -- bus to Cork Airport Car Hire

Cork (Crosshaven) -- Royal Cork Yacht Club (2011 is NOT a Cork Week for racing) -- bus to Cork A C H

Cork (East Ferry Marina) could be surprisingly cheap. Taxi to Cobh, short train to Cork.

Baltimore -- Baltimore Sailing Club or Atlantic Marine Services -- short taxi to Skibbereen then bus to Cork A C H

Schull -- pick up a big yellow mooring, pay euro 10 per day to the small chandlery near the pier -- bus to Bantry or Cork A C H

Adrigole -- pick up a big yellow mooring, pay euro 10 per day to the sailing school at the pier (very good people) -- bus to Bantry or Cork A C H

Have fun. Drive to Mizen Head and visit the lighthouse. Go to Dingle and over the Connor Pass. Do the Ring of Kerry. Go to Clare via the (f-in-law's) Tarbert-Killimer ferry and visit the Cliffs of Moher.

On our trip round Ireland last year we left the boat for two weeks at
Cahirsiveen Marina up from Valentia Island. Very secure, Staff very helpful.

It was due to reopen at the end of 2010 but I can't confirm it did.
