Mooring in Reading and possibly Oxford ????. 11 M boat. Draught about 1M

Reading has no redeeming features at all and Abingdon is like little Chicago at night. For a quiet spot, back of the lock island in the weir stream above Benson is good but do lift your port out drive as you approach the bank. Katie is the lock keeper. If you feel like something other than beans on toast, the Waterfront Cafe is agreeable.

Thanks for the heads up.
The stop at Reading is not for pleasure.
Have sold a rather fragile item, very reluctant to courier by both parties. Buyer lives in Bristol.
Sort of an agreement to meet halfway.
Hopefully just a short stop at Reading and on elsewear (anywhere ?) not too far away for overnight stop

Much of Reading is potentially a no-no bocause either it's full of "residents" who grab the best spots or managed by the dodgy-car-parking- company, who - it is rumoured don't answer the phone - 'cos they'd rather collect excess charges.

It might be possible - if you're only waiting a short time - to moor right at the back of the tail layby (be careful with the depth) or at the far end of the head layby, near the brodge - but do ask the lovely lockie (if she's on duty) / whoever, first.
The 'Tesco' moorings are an alternative, but the same parking company rules and want silly money for a short stop. Ofr course Tesco is probably the easiest if your contact is coming by car as he can park there and walk through.

(I've no objection to paying, but the administration is rumoured to be lacking - but my info is not up to date as we no longer stop in Reading...)

Ta. we will not be leaving the boat unattended at any point.

I'd do the handover at Tesco then turn around and go and moor above Sonning lock towpath side for the night.

Going upstream the next pleasant spot is pangbourne it depends how much boating you want to do after handing over the fragile item.

Tesco to Pangbourne is about 3 hours ish and two locks.

If no room at Pangbourne (it does get busy there) then up through Whitchurch lock another half an hour moor at Beale park.

People say you can never get in at Tesco but I've often found space on the jetty as most of the residents seem to hang around downstream and around Kennet mouth.

In Oxford there are moorings between Osney Lock and the Bridge, they’ve been quiet all summer, but I suspect they’ll get very full very quick after next weekend. From there, it’s a relatively easy walk to the centre, or there are plenty of buses.

The Lock Island in Abingdon is a personal favourite, a nice walk through the park (over the weir) to get into town.

There are a few an Sandford, the pub is pretty good most of the time, but gets very busy if the sun comes out, then it can go a bit pear shaped

For what it's worth we used the moorings at Iffley lock. Walk to the Tree for excellent food and beverage then bus or an hour walk into Oxford.Worked well last year. Just saying like.

Don't think OG will get under the bridge before Osney.
