Reading the document at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/forms-rates/rates/rate-rise-guidance.pdf#sec411
leads me to conclude that SYH are wrong. Check Annex B. If an invoice is issued now and paid in full the tax point is the date of the invoice and the current rate of VAT applies.
I've just been talking on the phone with Jonathan Dyke at SYH (I emailed him the link) & he said their VAT advice came from a higher level than the company accountant & that they unfortunately were going to have to follow the advice that had been given to them.
So there's nothing more I can add to the subject.
There are a couple of people on the mobo forum who understand VAT very well. I'll post a link to this thread over there and see if anyone can shed any light on it.
Well you didn't expect anyone with rags and sticks to understand VAT, surely ?

So, shall I get Xmas job so my mooring is paid until June 2012?![]()
If your cashflow can stand it then it is worth doing. Save 2.5% by paying 6 months early. Where can you earn 5%pa tax free? June 2011 renewal may also be at an increased rate. Of course, if the marine goes bust.......
But judging by the amount of money SYH are spending they either arent short of it
new pontoons with cleats maybe?
I forgot, most of you lot won't be able to venture into the mobo forum for fear of turning to ash (or something), so here's the thread i posted : .[/QUOTE] hahah! :D
Such luxuries are the work of the Devil![]()
I think SYH must share that view, when they built the pontoons for the Northern extension they appear to be of the same design as the rest of the marina.
