Mooring fees

I am pleased to report (for the sake of my business) that the poster someone once gave me still holds true.
It says:

TAX IS MORE DIFFICULT THAN ROCKET SCIENCE;
AT LEAST WITH ROCKET SCIENCE, THE RULES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME!

:D

Reading the document at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/forms-rates/rates/rate-rise-guidance.pdf#sec411

leads me to conclude that SYH are wrong. Check Annex B. If an invoice is issued now and paid in full the tax point is the date of the invoice and the current rate of VAT applies.

I've just been talking on the phone with Jonathan Dyke at SYH (I emailed him the link) & he said their VAT advice came from a higher level than the company accountant & that they unfortunately were going to have to follow the advice that had been given to them.

So there's nothing more I can add to the subject :(.

Sorry to hear that.

My letter from Fambridge dated 21st October 2010 says:

You are probably aware that VAT will increase to 20% on the 4th January 2011,we are offering you the chance to beat this VAT increase by allowing you the opportunity to pay fro your 2011 renewal in advance, your normal date will be unaffected.

Plus..
..invoice is being raised in 2010, the renewal will be based on 2010 prices..

Plus..
..you will receive our standard 3% discount by paying in advance.

The invoice.
..we must have invoiced and received payment in full by the 20th December 2010.

Offer is open to all renewal contracts whatever berthing options.

So, shall I get Xmas job so my mooring is paid until June 2012?

I think SYH must share that view, when they built the pontoons for the Northern extension they appear to be of the same design as the rest of the marina.

Don't joke about this.

We were at SYH for a couple of years - mooring in Summer, pontoon in Winter.
Asked once why they have these annoying rings or hoops and not cleats - got a bemused look.
Since cleats don't cost an arm & a leg, told them I would fit 3 cleats of my own. Was the told they would charge me for checking the fitting of these cleats.
