mooring compensators

Do folks fit them to just the bow and stern lines or springs as well? After the weekends gales Dabchick has fewer fairleads then before and I need to reduce the snatch, have fitted them to the breast ropes but not sure about the springs as well, moving from a swinging mooring to a linear pontoon is abit of a learning curve as before whenever we have been on a pontoon I have been aboard and able to see what is going on but now she needs to fend for herself!

I have as a minimum 6 mooring compensators attached to keep my boat from snatching in the wind and swell, sometimes even 8. So that definitely includes the springs. If you do not have enough mooring compensators it also helps to have mooring ropes that strech but unfortunately they squeak, for this reason I use non-streching rope and mooring compensators and have a peaceful night.

We deploy on breast lines and springs as no snatching equals quiet lines during gales which equals good sleep!

Before mucking about with compensators I'd suggest reviewing the size and type of warps you are using. I had two fairleads torn out before I realised that my warps were far too big and were imposing unnecessary snatch loads on the deck gear. Downsizing to stretchy nylon octoplait of a more appropriate size solved my problems.
