Mooring buoy

My Inflatable mooring buoy (round ball with a hole through the centre) has decided to shred its self to pieces so the only thing holding up my mooring is the boat, or my tender….

Any recommendations on the best type and source of mooring buoys as this is the 3rd or 4th one of various types I’ve had in 10 years…

Re: Mooring buoy

Can second Norfloat, or Scanmarin from Gaelforce. Either will last until a particularly inept sailing school lassoes your mooring!
As a result of this I'm looking at a rigid buoy strong enough to stand this abuse. Possibly with a rope cutter fitted! Or some tar on the bottom perhaps.

Hippo marine are the answer to your problem. Solid buoys with a thick plastic coat and a tube through the middle which allows you to run a thick chain direct to your mooring. Not cheap but mine lasted for 7 years with no visible deterioration and were only sold when I went to a marina. And thats in the Bristol channel which isnt the most friendly environment for such equipment.

The company concerned make commercial buoys for marinas and even for big ships - there was one of their big efforts just downstream of the old Severn bridge as a holding buoy for coasters for several years.
