I have had reply's from some of you re getting a berth in the Med. But as I have only been replying to other posts - I thought I would try my own thread.

We have a Broom 450 (13.7m x 4.57m draught 1.3) we are in port Napoleon at the moment - very safe, nice people but God forsaken..... miles from anywhere and mozies with aggression. We came down through the French Canals in June - very interesting trip!
We would like to move to the East - Bandol to Cannes but we have had no luck so far - we have driven in to a number of marinas and asked with no success! Does anyone know of anywhere with space?

hadthe same dilemma about 5 years ago down there and closest we came was on Isle Frioul opposite Marseille, but didn't get beyond a may be possible come back in Sepetember kind of thing. drew a complete blank elsewhere. overwintering is available on the water as many boats are on the hard, but a permanent berth was so difficult we gave up and headed further east and ended up in Greece where there was no problem whatever.

Friend of mine has a boat in Port de Borme, near Lavandou. Originally he wanted to take his UK based boat down to the area, but like you found it impossible to find a marina. In the end he had to buy another boat, on a berth, together with its lease and sell his UK boat. Seems the way down there.

Try Porqueroles ,the main island usually space on the visitors pontoon .plenty of them to soak up summer crowds.
Not busy in the winter, spaces
Also less £££ on a bouy in the harbour ,nice and safe
2 mini supermarkets, post office, bank, 2 marine shops/ engineers etc
Regular ferries to mainland
Heyres airport nearby and Marseilles 1 hr away

Show up in your boat negotiate terms - enjoy
2 1/2 hrs from where you are in Broom

But then you have the added cost of a ferry from Hyeres (?) It is a lovely place to visit though.

Or try the other side - Spain
Sant Carles must be one of the cheapest places in the Med
Great friendly English community here as well.
Quiet Spanish resort - no nightclubs or "kiss me quick" hats though :D
Lots to do locally as well

What is Toulon Like - it looks like its in the middle of the city? Even so please ask what the chance is of a berth. I am 13.7m x 4.57m with draught of 1.3m

have asked today (yesterday Capitainery was closed)
they will have space from beginning december !!
a few day's ago a big sailboat has been burning and sunk on its mooring,
they had to move 3 neighbour boats to make space for recovering the wreck,
works will be finished by the end of the month, they are a bit hectic until then.

rates are very affordable, the cheapest in this area, I believe prices are on the website.
they scharge per m2 not per length. you can book for one or for 3 months, ...if you don't find, asc pls, I have the rates somewhere.

Toulon, the port looks a bit sad, many old non used boats, many sailboats, not many mobo's, except lots of small merry fisher style peche promonade.
Capitaniery is very friendly and helpfull. (but closed in weekend /low season)

port is right in the city, so all supply's, big market, big Carrefour, at walking distance.
Many restaurants in the area and very cheap.
You can find a few good ones aswell.

Toulon old city is unknown but really nice, many small squares, cinema, musea, Opera, chopping center, rugby stadion opposite the port, etc etc...

there are many nord Africans here around, and not many but mainly french tourists.
The city is mainly occupied by people or services related to the navy in the bay.
The big french navy marine for the med is here around the corner.
Aircraft and helicopter carriers, submarine, all in place.
I have'nt heard about criminality in Toulon, not like Marseille.

you can get here:
-airport Toulon Hyeres (30km)
-airport Marseille (80km)
-TGV railway station IN Toulon
-or I come by car occasionally, 1100km motorway from Belgium.

Cruising destinations:
west: Cassis callenques, Sanary sur mère (I love it), Iles des embiez,...
east: Cavallaire, St Tropez, St Maxime, Port Grimaud ...
or at 16nm: les Porquerolles !!!
