Mooring at Walton on the Naze

I visited a friend in Walton a few months ago and whilst I was there I had a nose about with regards to swinging moorings as I rather fancy moving to the area once the boat is finished. Anybody got any views, info. etc. It is likely, at least initially that I would stay in all the time but that is not cast in stone.

I'm a Walton swinger! I mean, Swatchways is on a swinging mooring at Walton, although she comes out for the winter. You could also use the yacht basin at W&FYC - lots of lovely new pontoons in there. What do you want to know?

Spend our summers at Walton, both in the pond & on a buoy - great fun.

Paddingtonbear, I too am on a mooring at Walton, but currently ashore for the winter. The mooring is owned and looked after by Halls Boatyard (01255 675 596) who I can't recommend highly enough. You would need a tender with a decent engine there as the moorings are a long way away and the flood and ebb are quite strong in the channel. The pool is a consideration, but I don't know what the prices are like. I draw 5'10" (1.78m in French) and the keel does settle into the soft mud on low tides.

Assume your buoy is in either the Twizzle or The Walton Channel rather than Foundry Reach , which dries. We are also ashore in Halls - agree they are excellent.

The Pond is owned by the Trust but managed by Bedwell's who will be able to confirm the various price options. Problem with The Pond is lack of water a opening hours significantly reduce access.

Another option could be Titchmarsh.

Both Bedwell & Titchmarsh have buoys.

I have a 2.8m hypalon inflatable with an inflatable keel and a 3.5hp air cooled 2 stroke Suzuki. so we shall have to see if it is up to it. I am convinced about the moorings so thanks one and all. I really am rather excited.

I'd also highly recommend Halls - their workmanship is excellent, and they are extremely patient - putting up with my numpty questions certainly! Swatchways is currently ashore there also.
I use an inflatable tinker tramp and a 3.3hp 2 stroke mariner outboard, which has always done the job fine. I would think your set up would be fine, too.

O/T slightly - it would seem there are quite a few of us there, would be nice to meet some of you sometime!

I second that, I am quite far away in Frankby but go down to Walton about once a month - next time is first week in December. You never know who your neighbours are. You never know who's ladder you are borrowing! My boat is slander (someone nicked the "I"!)
