Mooring at Hampton Court. Maybe?

Where did you moor? I'm guessing it was behind the lock office in the weir stream? I've seen boats at the beginning of the downstream lock layby which weren't going through but they are a bit of an obstruction if the rest of the layby is occupied by waiting boats.

I wonder if the cruising club opposite (is it TMYC or something) have a visitor mooring available?

On the occasion that we moored at the lock we were at the down stream end of the lay by below the lock. There are some moorings behind the lock so I suggest that you telephone the lock keeper.

Just an update - and to say thanks for the advice and suggestions.

We arrived at Hampton Court last Saturday in the late afternoon. No problem in finding a space as there was only 2 other boats there. Kingston also looked fairly clear as we came up river so we could have gone back if necessary.

The Palace was well worth the visit on Sunday. Very interesting. We then headed back to Teddington for the night. Highly recommend The Anglers for a meal.

Thanks again. We will get further up the Thames next time.

Who remembers Mike Windsor the Landlord of the Anglers and prior to that the Landlord of the Bugle on the Hamble.

Mike is now almost 84 years old and still reasonably healthy. Living in Devon he calls me several times a year for a natter.

I remember when Benny Hill was a regular and Beryl Reid would drink like a navi with hollow legs. Back in the day when you could get served in less than twenty minutes, it was a fine pub :D

Being next door to the Studio there was always someone famous in there. I was there with Tommy Cooper two days before he died. Of course it always used to be the Beetle & Wedge that had the mega stars. In the Smith's day I've been there when the only person I'd never heard of was me.

The studio is now very flat ....... Almost all knocked down now in fact probably is down now.

The Anglers goes through a full transformation every few years. Personally I would walk five mins up the High Street but then again I live there ....

Ate at the Tide End twice in the last two weeks - very impressed, seems much better than my last visit a couple of years ago.

The anglers has gone all a bit too posh food for me now...

I still don't understand why you all don't just walk up the high street ! More restaurants than you can shake a stick at. All far better than both Tide End and Anglers ! Although I appreciate they are good for quick grub.

Cos I don't know the area, and by the time I go out, I'm hungry!!!! We did eat at an Indian there one night too, which was very good. Can't remember the name, but it had a downstairs lounge area and sponsored the local football team (judging by the shirts hung on the wall)

Exactly. after either 8 hours down from Harleyford or similar amount of travelling time up from Medway, i just want to find the nearest place that serves reasonable food. Never liked the Anglers so that leaves the Tide End.

A little way up the High Street in Teddington (172), there is now a Cote Brasserie. (Where the Royal Oak used to be). Not been there myself however.

I know the area quite well but I use the Tide End.
When I'm on the boat I have no desire to walk up the high st and rejoin civilisation!

The curry house is Moiduls and is very good ( ate there on sat) Prem on the right is also very good. Trust me a 5 min walk will give you so much more than the tide and danglers.

What's the chances of getting a mooring at Hampton court in July?
Rather than the long slog up from the Solent we are hiring a boat for a couple of weeks on the Thames
Picking up from penton hook on the Saturday and will either that overnight in the marina or look for somewhere locally .. Any suggestions? Saturday late afternoon! I don't know the river in this area .. Had a boat at Bourne end about 30yrs ago so know the river up stream from Windsor quite well but not down stream so would like to go as far as they will let me! Kingston I think is the limit
Would it be best to arrive at Hampton mid/late morning on Sunday? Also what is there further downstream around Kingston in the way of safe moorings? Many thanks

These is no guarantee I'm afraid. All it takes is the Magna Carta hotel boat and a handful of poorly spaced narowboats and that the moorings gone. It's purely down to luck. If you continue past the moorings toward the island, you'll see a set of steps. With mooring stakes it is possible to moor there.
Your other option is the 24 hour moorings just before Molesey Lock at Hurst Park. There is a sign that says to ring the lock keeper to announce your arrival and it says it's patrolled by a parking company, but the barge that's been using a third of the space for weeks doesn't seem to have noticed

On our visits we found the Italian on the left hand side of the high st. from the lock good value, also the Wharf opposite the lock.
