Its understandable that some people refer and think about boat anchors by weight. In some anchors of the long ago it was the weight that did a lot of the work, the weight pressing on the seafloor. The age old "fisherman's anchor", with a fluke area not much bigger that its shank cross section area is maybe an illustrative example.
But today more modern anchors are using fluke design to dig in and create a resistance to pull far beyond that of any older anchor. The days of having to carry many tens of kilos of anchor weight are gone for many, but some people still specify by weight of anchor rather than the resistance it will provide.
Hmmm, maybe there's an opportunity for a new thread discussing the comparative qualities of various anchor design?
I bought my lightish mooring gear, 30m of 16mm long link and 2 x 25kg Fortresses from Gael Force and was pleased with price, service and quality.
