I sail a Gib'Sea 96 Master, 10.1 metres (33 feet in old money) and like the internal layout and skips along quite happily. I've no idea what the PY rating is as I've got zero interest in racing. Might be worth a look.

And, slightly smaller, but no slouch, the Sadler 29. Yep, I'm biased, but we do 6 months plus a year on ours and love it. Pretty good in lighter airs.

Albin cumulus yes older if you can get one might be a bit tight by today’s standard but you do get a great grin factor

Lovely yachts. I used to coach on one for a sailing school in Gib. Not only that, I ran a YM prep week for 3 people on board, one of them being Mrs. S.

All passed. One went on to be Chief Instructor at another Gib RTS. The other was the Deputy Govenor of Gibraltar who bought the boat. I delivered her to his next posting, Corfu. Brill trip including some of the biggest following seas iv ever seen South of Sicily. Awesome. Nipped into Malta to dry out.

Proper thread drift!

Why restrict your search to Westerly or Moody?

I came from an active dinghy racing background into the cruising world.

Initially we literally bought a dinghy with a lid. OK it was 24 foot, had a heavy lifting keel but it was capable of planing! Equivalent to camping on sea. Not much good for more than a couple and a few days away.

Eventually I grew up and decided we wanted something for holidaying and cruising for longer in a more comfort but without losing the thrill of performance.

We settled for a boat that was advertised when first launched as a new boat at the price of a secondhand Westerly.

We often sailed in company with a bilge keel Moody 36& Sadler 32 without trying too hard!
We had to wait around for a fin keel Moody Eclipse 33, Sadler29, Westerly Konsort, Westerly 33 and Westerly Griffin.
Typical passage plan at 6knots.
Best sail ever Padstow to IOS average 7.9 knots! Not bad for a 29 footer.

It helped to form the foundation for the largest cruising boat builder who now own the Moody brand.

Wish I never sold it but old age requires greater comfort for the Admirable!

I've sailed all of the original Dubois Moody yachts from 28 31,34,376and 336 plus the 425s . Favourites were the 336 and the wheel steering 31 and Eclipses- as sales demos, in a mixture of light and rougher weather.
Most at least averaged at least 5-6 kts under sail and good engine performance too.
The 336 was very well finished and a easy fast yacht; Eclipse 38 and 43 very good below deck but the 33 felt rather cramped but a good sailing performance slightly reduced by the in-mast mainsail.
The 31 seemed a different boat from the tiller version.
All these were model of the 80's.

Are you sure ? Whilst Dubois designed many of the best Westerlies, I thought the Moody 336, Eclipse etc were Bill Dixon designs? No expert on Moody though so may be wrong

Definitely Bill Dixon. I owned a Moody 336 and found her a great combination of sailing ability and comfort.

I've sailed an Angus Primrose 33 (1970's), not aprticularly impressed, however this year I crewed a 376 with novice crew, (Owners) very impressed, sailed well, good speed and comfortable. Lots of space accommodation below, very impressed.
