Moody Eclipse 33 or Westerly Riviera

Hi everyone and thanks for all your help.
I also started a thread in the racing section chasing handicap data and checked out as many Club/ local / area (including foreign ) handicap data lists as I could find on line. That has built a picture that seams fairly consistent and conclusive showing that the Westerly Riviera (Based on handicap data) is faster under sail.
I wont duplicate all that data here but interestingly other boats I considered sailing biased motor-sailors all had almost identical handicaps, Eclipse 33, Horizon 32, LM32, Espace 1000, Westerly Vulcan, Southerly 115 and although not quite a match for the Riviera these were handicaps comparable to Classic Yachts like the Nicholson 32, and Warrior 35, so still perfectly respectable sailing boats for their time.
But of course so much of what you have all said matters.
When buying boats of this age condition is everything, as are any improvements and how well they have been done.
A Riviera with sails that set like a bag of spuds and a three bladed prop may well struggle to match one of the other options that has been loved and improved.
All The Best and Many Thanks for your advice and input.

Hi Jigger
I discovered your post while researching eclipse33 vs riviera 35. Did you find a Riviera in the end, any thoughts since your last post regarding actually sailing one? I’m off to look at a Riviera soon and any performance feedback from an experienced sailor would be a big help in decision making.
