One has just been delivered to Kip Marina and I have to say I think it looks great. I seem to recall that when it was announced this forum lit up with the vast majority saying it was horrible. That was my first reaction too, but the shape has grown on me and seeing it in the flesh I really think it looks smart. Dare I say it - a step forward in alternative yacht design which is not a bad thing, given that the vast majority of production yachts over the years are almost identical in basic layout.

I've sailed one.

Went ok, nothing to get overly excited about but no slouch. Decent passage maker certainly.

Interior is excellent, if you're picking a boat on liveaboard comfort primarily it would be really tough to look past it. And the cockpit layout for relaxing under sail and at anchor seemed excellent, plus the cockpit storage... I don't think anyone could fill that!
Only issue for me was that I seemed to be exactly the wrong height to helm it! Any shorter and I could have easily seen forward through the windows, and any taller and I could have seen over the top, but as it was I had to stoop, which was frustrating.
But the looks....
Really don't do it for me!

I agree, it wont win any prizes in the looks department but its a great concept. I like it.

I like it too, despite the fact that the one I've seen is battleship grey. I suspect a more traditional colour - white or dark blue - would help.

At LIBS we had a guided tour of the boat which was most impressive & we had already declared that we were not buying just being nosey.The agent from Scotland went out of his way to show us everything on the boat.We did declare that we(2 pairs) were both Moody owners so that might have helped.If I had that sort of money for blue water cruising it would be at the top of my list.Dream on.

Well I just don't get it.

Not for racing.
Not for serious passage making - with those large glass doors.
Not a daysailor - and a large boat can still be fun around the bay.

So in the end, a very comfortable coastal cruiser? One that cant't be great at anchor with all that windage.
In that size and price bracket, I need more.

I suppose they're going after the motorboat market.

And then there are the looks...

Kicked the fenders on one at Excel. I can see the point and the market they are after.

Tucked up in Newtown Creek drinking several bottle of wine, watching the snow come down... great.

But the helm position was like somebody had stuck raymarine instruments on the end of my sunglasses, couldn't see much else. Not for me.

Did anybody notice the similarities in layout between the Moody 41 and the Hanse 400? Think a bit of cut and paste was goig on!

I would not pay very much for a yacht that looks like this; regardless of interior, locker space or sailing ability. I get nauseous just looking at it!
Boats should have great lines.......

Which ever way you look at it, it fails the row-away test. Has many plus points but with too many aesthetic reservations. Probably great to be aboard but... rowing away you'd be reminded every time that only it's mother or designer could love it!

Last summer when there was one of these in Gossie the Missus refused to go near it. Having been dreged on board she demanded we get one. Probably the best 45ft accomodation I have seen and according to JJ it sails well. Can't think of a better monohull to spend 6 months on. Summer in the Med with AC....perfect. Summer in the Baltic with loads of blond lovelies admiring it...yummy.

Its mother, its designer, and me. Far better than the average Benjenbav blob. Plus, it's evidence of genuinely creative thinking. And it sails OK too. Actually, I'd rather like to take one for a spin around the block!

Thanks for that; I was trying to find a picture yesterday. Interestingly on the Premier Marinas site that is the only angle that they don't picture it from. It looks Ok from the angles they've chosen. It doesn't appeal to me though.

I like it. Nauticat owners will understand the benefit of a proper deck saloon. LM30 owners would like the level deck connecting cockpit and inside helm position.

Since the LM30 has the yachting industry offered a cockpit/saloon through design? (Cat owners need not reply)

Other features I really like...

The side decks look fabulous... a much safer trip forward.

The accomodations does looks rather splendid!

The fold down step at the side for when in a marina is a neat touch

The lack of Aft cabin, allowing the hull's stern quarters to turn in nicely, which I suspect will do the handling in rough weather no harm at all

Anyone had a good look at the construction?... is built like a Moody, or is it more like a Hanse with lighter construction for a turn of speed?

Seriously, if were to come down to a choice between one of these, and say an HR 46, then it would be a tough decision for me....
