Moody 376, length of berths

We are interested in a Moody 376 as a cruising vessel. It fits our price bracket.

I am 6' 3" (191cm) so I am not sure about the length of the aft cabin berth or the standing headroom in these vessels. The aft cabin berth is offset to starboard with the head bulkhead leaving no room for extension in length of the double berth. Unfortunately we do not have handy access to a vessel, so if anyone can help I wuld appreciate hearing something.

Any other impressions of this model would be good.

Also 6'3 and chartered a 37 many moons ago. Length of aft cabin berth fine. Headroom short there. You have to get used to climbing over if you draw the ticket for the hull side of the berth!. Tight headroom thru passage. Plenty in saloon. Forecabin a bit cramped as fine bows and everything is pushed forward. Best berth is the navigators berth in the passage. Double with the table down also good - excellent single cosy double.

Tough old boat but very variable in condition and equipment judging by those we looked at 2-3 years ago when looking to buy.

Roger that.

The later model Moody 38, 422 and 425 have a centreline aft double giving better access both sides but they are a tad more expensive. It is always a compromise. Interested to hear you had leg room.

We considered a Moody 37 a few months ago. I measured the aft cabin bunk at exactly 6ft, which I would find only just acceptable. However a Moody 346 owner I spoke to was perfectly happy to fit his 6'3" frame into the same length berth. So it depends how "length" sensitive you are.

The forecabin berths on the 37 were surprising short - OK for one, but we felt two adults would be playing footsie at the sharp end!

I had a 346 before my 422, we got rid of it because of the berths being too shortl. We looked at the 376 but discounted it for the same reason - and I am 5'10" not 6'3" Bill dixon doesnt do long berths, he must be a short ass!
 
we had a 346 before our current 44. I slept well in the aft cabin, and I am 6'6" but SWMBO always complained about being squeezed up against the side of the hull - hence the upgrade.

All boats are a compromise one way or another, and you wont go far wrong with a 376 - they were, and still are, very popular for good reason.

An excellent Owners Assoc too, as pointed out by Skysail.
