Morning I change my anodes every year I have 2 on the prop and 1 on the hull I have noticed at the bottom of the engine stranger valve is going a pink ish I can assume the valve is original and 30y old .
every thing on the boat is bonded to the anodes. But my boat is spending a lot of time in the marina plugged into shore power do i need to panic or just keep a eye on it .
any help on this would be welcome

Thanks David

David, the anodes on our Moody 31 now last 2 years after we fitted solar and stopped using shore power. Do you need shore power 24/7? why not just disconnect it completely when you are away. Whilst the rudder shaft, prop shaft and anode are connected the sea cocks are all isolated.

Pete

I was thinking of disconnecting shore power but I run the battery charger and 3 tube heaters all year

Thanks David

There is no reason for your seacocks to be connected to an a node as they are isolated from the rest of the boat.

If it is showing signs of pink then replace it. I had one out of 5 break up when I was changing mine to TruDesign composite on a 1988 boat, despite the fact it had passed hammer test on survey 12 months prior. As Tranona says, thinking on this side of the pond is not to bond seacocks.

Why run the tube heaters particularly during the summer? Moodys have quite good ventilation systems, so assuming the bilges are dry the boat will be fine whilst you are not on board. Do the batteries really need to be on charge 24/7 if so a solar panel would be an advantage that you could take with you when your anchoring off the beaten track.
