Moody 34 Deck hatches and \"glass\" replacement

Moody 34, 1985 model with 3 deck hatches with vents. All have crazed cracked "glass" in them ....

Anyone replaced their "glass" or did they have to replace complete hatch ...

The hatches are a) forward deck with central vent, b) main cabin top hatch with central vent, c) aft cabin top hatch and also central vent.

Any advise / info appreciated.... such as possible source of the "glass" or hatches ... believed to be Lewmar.

Eagle Boat Windows advertise in the Moody Owners mag and have good reports - 01756 792097.

If these are lewmar hatches, they are easily repaired. I believe the material is perspex. seem to remember that there has been several posts on this before, perfectly feasible d-i-y job.

Re: Moody 34 Deck hatches and \"glass\" replacement

We replaced the fore and after cabin hatches on Cornish Maid. Quite easy really. The only difficult bit is getting to the screws that hold down the hinges, which have (on Moody 37) a stainless backing plate with nuts welded on. We used Lewmar hatches which were the same size and almost the same fitting, except that the screw holes for the surround needed re-drilling, and the backing plate needed to have a new hole made. It isn't that hard, so go for it.
On the other hand, on a recent thread, it was stated that the crazing is only on the surface, and can be polished out. T-cut perhaps? You could try this first.

Not actually my boat .... but one I\'m involved with ...

Me - if only crazed and not actually cracked through - I'd be inclined to fit "tinted" film anyway !! Same as the black stuff that goes on car windows ...

Yes I am that cheap .... !!
