Hi.

Im trying to find a polar for a Moody 33,
We are sailing to the Med this year and im hopeing to use the sailgrib WR for routing and also need the polar for sailonline who will be mirroring our route.
I have found what I think are similar polars and can tweek them with sailgrib but would like to start with the correct polar.
Does anyone have one or know where I could find one.
I have searched the web with no luck yet !

Thanks
Regards
Nige.

Just go for an average 5 knots. It's not that crucial on a cruising boat. Chances are your boat won't sail to the polar anyway.

Thanks for your replys, I shall contact MOA.

The trouble with using 5 knot average is most of the time its not correct, a North Sea crossing last year averaged 7.5 knots, Harwich averaged over 6.5 kn. Alot depends on the crew using the wind and forecasts correct, this is where sailgrib WR and other routing software are very helpful.
As we will be sailing with www.sailonline.org virtually sailing alongside they also need a polar for their virtual boats.

Thanks

Nige.

Yes. This Moody 33 sounds like a grown up Anderson 22. The 5 knots average suggested by Spyro would give a daily run of 120 miles - not to be sniffed at for an old 33' cruising boat. On the other hand 7.5 implies daily runs of 180 miles - real high performance or big boat territory.

Think if my strategy depended on chasing the weather to maximise boat speed, I would not be choosing a relatively slow old boat to do it in.
