Moody 30 needs new windows.

Got to replace the windows on this Moody 30. It had perspex replacements put in but I want framed glass. Any ideas where to go? Many thanks.

Afternoon Dafydd.

After looking at the pictures. It would be very difficult to make them openers due to the increase and decrease in hight.
Also for us to provide windows you would have to cut the aperture out where the recess begins due to our frames would be too big to fit into the hole you already have.
Is any of this suitable for yourself?

I had my Moody 31 windows made in blue tinted toughened glass by Houdini Marine. Now more expensive than Perspex but a longer delivery time is they have to get them made. My windows are flat. They look great and no more crazing or scratches.

That sounds good, did they do the frames to?

i gave them the frames and they bedded the new windows in them.

The worst job was getting the glue from the gaffer tape off the hull sides after two weeks of securing plastic covers!

If you have framed windows, not only will they be extremely expensive as they will have to be custom made, or you will have to enlarge the apertures to retain the same glazed area - and allow for the width of the frames, but will still be expensive. There is not enough depth to make them opening, and sliding open windows are a source of leaks. Nothing wrong in principle with the type of windows you have, but you may want to replace them with tinted polycarbonate bedded in butyl tape which which make them aesthetically more pleasing.

@MoodySabre I sympathise. Left masking tape on a week while anti fouling....removing it was a bigger job than the anti fouling. Wife did it lol

@Tranona Thats what put me of the edges around my present ones are so messy. If I can get them done neat it is an option. Is this method ok for ocean going?

6mm polycarbonate would certainly be strong enough - as would your existing windows. Looking at photos of other Moody 30s that seems to be the original window arrangement.

Polycarbonate vs acrylic - not a simple "best" choice ( http://blog.theplasticpeople.co.uk/2012/06/01/how-are-polycarbonate-acrylic-different/ ).
I would agree with Tranona's point that framed, opening windows are probably more trouble than they're worth.

There was a typo here. NOT more expensive it was supposed to say. Four windows about £500 included bedding compound Arboseal. There will always be cheaper options.
