After yet another disappointing viewing of a boat. I am going to expand my list of possible models on that list. One of which will be moody 27. Are they a reasonable quick 27f boat and are they easy to single hand . Views welcome

Yes, easy to singlehand (as is any reasonably set up cruiser of that size!). Better if lines are led aft to the cockpit as many will be by now. "quick" is difficult to define - these are aimed at the family market and are very capable coastal and cross channel cruisers. Much more important as you have probably found out is condition and equipment - good sails, good engine clean interior and reasonably up to date nav gear are things to look for rather than whether one design is supposed to be quicker than another.

Cheers yes I'm finding it fairly frustrating. There seems to be a lot of boats which I call 50 / 50 some good points and equally bad points. Will keep looking

As already stated condition is everything. You'll be aware that it's very much a seller's market at the moment, good older boats are few & far between and when they do appear they're snapped up pretty quickly. By all means have a short list but don't let it deter you from looking at other boats. Any boat of that size can be set up for single handed sailing, main thing really is to have a tiller pilot (or tiller tamer of some sort as a bare minimum), the rest is down to personal preference, e.g. I find it less of a faff to go to the mast to hoist mainsail or reef. I have (home made) lazy jacks that fold out of the way easily when not in use, always wear a PLB and do not clip on going forward when coastal sailing. Self-tailing winches are very nice to have. Others do things differently, there's no correct or incorrect way.

Good luck with your search...:)

Yes, Moody 27's are good boats but I am biased a bit as I have a M33... As Graham376 says, you can go to the MOA website and get info - and if you get one, join the club, cheap with lots of info. What is your budget? A friend has a Contessa 28 for sale - see Clarke & Carter for more info, or pm me.

I have a Moody 33 project, it was the first one ever sold and they are great boats and over engineered and well built.

Moodys created many successful cruising yacht designs. The Moody 27 is very roomy and like all Moodys, it is very well made. Make sure that the engine has been well maintained and is in good condition; it doesn't matter whether the engine is the original or replacement. Also look at the 28 and 29. Good luck.
