Hello to all,

Just bought a Mont 250 CR 2005 - Yanmar 240hp Diesel mated to a Bravo II. Got a few questions for the Forum experts and any owners of these fine craft!

1. Do they come std with a Galvanic Isolator? - or has anyone fitted one to this vessel? - easy or difficult access?

2. Not had an Outdrive before (only shaft) so any advice here dos and donts etc.

3. Any ownership tips (specific to this boat) things to watch for/easy improvements etc...

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new purchase, unfortunately ive no answers for you but im sure they will appear shortly /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi and welcome to the forum /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a Monterey 250, although not sure how much use I'll be in answering your questions!

1) Don't know for sure but I think its a no.
2) Not driven shafts so, not really in a position to give differences between the two! main thing I guess is the old "steer then gear"
3) Not really.. ours is a 2006 with the D4 260 lump, i spec'd a few bits from the options list but otherwise pretty standard and does very nicely with it!

Would be interested to know where you looked for the boat and what you paid (feel free to send me a private message if you prefer) simply because I'm trying to sell mine and would appreciate knowing where you looked.. as it obviously worked to secure a sale! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you have any more questions I'll try and be a little better at answering them!

Charlie

Cheers everyone, thanks for the welcome. I look forward to any tips and advice - particularly on caring for outdrives - such how to leave them when moored for instance up or down? and trim tabs - not had those before either - !!

Cheers

Unless your on a drying mooring leave the drive down.

On occasiions you may find it useful to have tabs down when getting on the plane (for example if there's weed on the hull and its being a little slugish!)

Otherwise, if your leaning to Port press the right hand tab, if your leaning to Starboard press the left tab down.

If your in a head sea leg in and tabs down, in a following sea best to keep the tabs up and the leg out, although on all accounts we're only talking about fairly small adjustments

If you start to hear the prop venting (losing grip, engine racing) then most likely your leg is too high!!

Final one is if your about to go into a hard/fast turn then normally sensible to trim the leg in a little.

I'm sure you'll get used to her soon! look forward to seeing some pictures and hearing about your trips /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When leaving the boat on a mooring, leave all rams fully retracted (ie leg right in and tabs fully up). This prevents any fouling on the rams which might otherwise damage the seals next time you pull them in.

Edit: Except, as Chas25 says, if it's a drying mooring obviously lift the drive up.

Hi , congratulations with the new boat. Had a 2001 Monterey 262 for 4 years and spent about 300 hours with the boat. Still remember the 1st time we went on the plane. A bit panicking as the boat leaned all the way to port side. Took me a few trips and a bit of courage to properly trim the tabs, never used the leg trim a lot though.

I had a trim tab meter retrofitted, that would tell me if the tabs were up or down and how much. I had a tendency to continue adjusting my tabs all the way down, but then they were no longer usefull, so the trick is to adjust them both up and down depending on the need.

Tabs are useful though, cause the boat may lean quite a bit to either side when you move around. I know that on some occasions, I had to use them often to keep the boat right on its course.

I may take some time, but Im sure you'll get the hang of it.
Just try it out and don't be afraid when it leans a bit (much).

Cheers,
Alain

Once more thanks to all for the useful advice.

Chas25 - you should have a PM.

I found out that 250s do have Galv Isol as std - so thats one thing off the list!

Q - if I have GI operating is it still advisable to do the extra bomb anode on a wire connected to earth trick as we'll if leaving her on SP over the Winter in a Marina?

Cheers.
