Down the boat today and I find a very rare sight in these parts!

It was apparently used in James Bond Golden Eye. Crusader petrol engines however.....exhaust water traps fitted which was disappointing from a sound standpoint :):):)

Nothing a match wouldn’t sort! It’s too cheap to moor on the walls.

Got to be one of the first stepped hulls?

In it its pure form yes.

But the the Italcraft Aermar followed by the Riva 2000 also featured a small step at the back. (both Sonny Levi designs).
So these two feature a stepped hull before Offshorer altough not in the form it then eventually developed in offshore racing.

Pretty aggressive steps.

I also noticed the engines are aligned inwards to v drives gearboxes to get the shafts closer together.

Never seen that before...probably common in narrow twin engine racing boats etc

Are the engines/gearboxes/other oily bits generally reliable on these? They look decent value for money second hand.

They are Possibly a bit on the impractical side though--no bathing platform really, looks like no kind of sunshade but maybe one could be fabricated?

Problem with the air step idea is in a chop / waves the inlet gaps suddenly close with the waves and any reduced friction / drag is immediately lost.
They obviously are very effective at reducing drag at high speeds , if the sea state permits. Ie is calm and allows proper ventilation.
Two air steps is like have 3 hulls connected for lift , you get more lift if conditions, ie flat sea permits .
They run flat as well because of the better distribution if lift .In other words they don’t dig the stern in or run bow high like a lot of modern FB I see running about .

Basically waves kill off any advantage(s) .

It’ll be useless round here then! :)
