Monsoon Trof

Thanks, altho I cannot see the difference between Itcz and Monsoon Trof,in the west/north atlantic.

The ITCZ is an area of calms, a lot of convection hence squalls, thunderstorms and the like.
If you sail North->South through the ITCZ, you will have NEish trades, then calms, then SE-ish trades.

If you sail North-> South throught the monsoon trough, you will sail from NE trades, then a mixture of calms and strongish S-to-SW winds (which is not too welcome if you are sailing towards Brasil for example), which will back to SE once you get more to the south.

A fellow boat had SW winds during 1.5 days, then they backed to the normal SE trades.
