Went past today and the place has closed down, all the ground floor windows have been boarded up.

we looked at the hotel about 6 years ago as a possible venue for our wedding. Although the location was perfect, even then the place looked very run down and scruffy. The place needed a huge refurbishment investment to bring it up to scratch with it's competition, places like Oakley Court.

It doesn't suprise me that it has closed. It is a shame, but hopefully someone new will come in and invest some money to get it back to standard.

I have a sinking feeling that the building will crumble until the land becomes yet another development of luxury apartments. They applied for planning permission for 4 homes(which was only granted if used for staff accomodation), but I wouldn't be surprised if the owners were just testing the water with a view to flogging it off to a property developer.

Rumour has it that it's been bought by a Chinese hotel group that owns the Gainsborough in Bath amongst others globally. A year long refurb is planned. Hope they improve the main channel moorings too.
