what’s a bow bow locker?

somewhere to store tie bows? (Very Brucek)

somewhere for crossbows? (good idea to bring that out whilst discussing salvage?)

im intrigued! ??

Exactly that. We've towed four boats over the years and always worked on the principal that "one day, It might be me out there chum"; I did accept the drinks though ;)
 
Seems like good mutual respect is key then, Offer a gesture ofcourse but the fact of "Scratching eachothers backs" seems more appealing than anything else.

You've been witness to the crowd of cut throats I share waters with. Make the bow bow stash a large one if you're ever in Welsh Med waters.
 
I have towed a couple of boats locally and on one occasion the guy couldn't stop thanking me enough as he was worried about his young children onboard while drifting. Thanks is all I need nothing else, but if it was much larger distant then I maybe help covering the fuel cost (just maybe). I have also been towed before by a fishing boat and he wanted nothing more than a thank you.

As regards to salvage I think it is covered by your insurance policy if a claim was to be made.
 
I know someone who has a motorboat. He offered to tow a yacht into the marina. The yacht had engine issues and the owner agreed to being towed.
It did't go well . Coming into the lock at the marina entrance the yacht was accidentally damaged ,
A claim was made against the motorboat owner for repairs to the yacht.

The stupid thing was the yacht was not in danger prior to being towed as it was in the lock approach and tied to some piles.

Be careful out there .

I had a very strange conversation with another motorboat owner who was about to drift into the shipping lane near the Nab Tower a few years back.
I'm rigging up a bridle across the rear cleats, and trying to get into position to chuck a line across.
There's a huge container vessel doing maybe 15kts getting bigger, not exactly about to mow us both down, but it will be fairly close with a substantial wake.
And the other boat is arguing with me that he doesn't want to take my line in case I make a salvage claim!
Instead he wants me to use his puny bit of string.

I was close to just giving up and standing by until someone else turned up, but I did manage to persuade him that a salvage claim was not on the cards.
I towed him for 10mins or so to get him out of the shipping lane, then the RNLI appeared, like Mr Ben.
Trying to transfer bottles of booze at sea would probably have ended badly.

Yup i haven't got a "Tow rope" as such but i think 100m of 12mm poly prop anchor rode would double up as one.

Thats what I'm scared of...If my rope breaks, And i use the towing vessel's rope i could be basically handing them the keys to my boat. Im very weary of this.

The laws on Salvage are complicated, but any claim has to take into account all kinds of stuff such as the degree of peril (are they really about to sink or be washed onto the rocks?) , the level of assistance provided etc.

"Flower Power towing a vessel out of a shipping lane for 10 minutes" wouldn't get me far with a claim - I've not heard of leisure vessels making salvage claims on other boaters.
Has this ever happened?

Taking a tow from a commercial operator is something different ... it's definitely worth agreeing terms before you accept.
