Anyone bought a mainsail from Momentum made from the pentec 2200.

Can you comment on the shape and quality of sail compared to other sails.

We have a kite made by them and very pleased with it.

Just wondering whether to go down this route for the main. Normally would go with Hood sails, but the quote from momentum is looking good /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

TIA

The "magic" of hood and north has now been eroded.
Almost all sailmakers use the same software to design the flying shape of the sail (i.e. the shape it is after the loads distort it)
The materials all come from the same suppliers (Bainbridge etc) unless very specialist top end racing cloth which can still be proprietory.
Many (including hood & north) outsource the manufacturing to Singapore or China and then finish off locally.
So, if you are happy with the service that you get from Momentum and are happy that the pentec 2200 cloth is right for your main then go ahead.
Alternatively, ask them for a reference boat similar to your own and contact the owner to look around at the weekend to see sails made by Momentum on other boats and make your own judgement on how good the shape is/how well finished they look.
Sounds like you are spending your money on a really good quality cloth which is likely to give you a better result than a cheaper cloth but a "better" sailmaker.

The latter point certainly wasn't the case when we bought Hood sails, they make their own material (or have they stopped?). This was blindingly obvious when we put their fabric and four other sailmakers' fabric under a large magnifying glass. The Hood fabric had significantly more threads and less glue than the other fabrics which did seem to be the same (we had specified fabric for long distance cruising sails). It's the threads that cost the money and give a sail that keeps its shape for longer, glue is cheap. You get what you pay for, as always.
