Work at Molesey has been completed and the lock re-opened yesterday afternoon.
The problems at Bell Weir and Romney cannot be resolved by a quick fix so the EA have decided to carry out significant upgrades to the electronics and software systems at both sites. This is planned for later this month and should be completed by the end of March.
Unfortunately these systems are old and in some cases original manufacturers are no longer in business so the planning process has inevitably taken time. However user groups have done everything possible to encourage the action which is now in hand and should ensure much more satisfactory operation for both lock staff and boaters.
More information is available on the TMBA website at www.tmba.org.uk
A project is also in hand to ensure that pedestal instructions river wide for self service operation by boaters are clear and understandable.
