Moles (non boaty)

I liked my moles when they were here. A bit like relatives I suppose. But sorry when there gone. Dont know why my moles went or why. But I miss them now. But I suppose I would be sorry if they'd stayed. Some times I get rabbits but not for long. Why is this. I quite like them and would love to have them back.

I'm a wimp - I've just 5 minutes ago written the cheque to the man who poisons our moles with strychnine worms. Works very well - he comes round at least once a week all through the year checking for activity. The reason it works so well is that the little darlings take the worms, and then die. Their best friends/nearest rele then eats the dead mole, and also dies. and so on. and so on.

The only drawback of this method over traps, is that you no longer see the litlle buggers hung up by their tails to dry beside the fields, so you cant make linings and so on. On balance I'd rather by the lining stuff and have no moles.

Only just seen your post, so you may have solved your problem. However, if you still have gentlement in black velvet suits....

Traps: these work fine, but you must not touch them. Moles can detect the faintest whiff of human scent and will avoid going near them. When you get your traps hang them on the washing line for about a week, or lay them on the soil. Then when you pick them up use thick gardening gloves/old paper/old plastic bags.

Ecologically friendly: You could try planting Euphorbia in your garden (Spurge), not one of the exotic sort though, apparently moles do not like the smell the roots give out. It does take a little while to get the plants established.
