Hi All,
First apologies if this has been posted in the wrong section and apologies if most of you already know this. The historic Anglesey lifeboat station has been demolished and another is being built in the same spot. This station in the past has been home to many heroic famous rescues.
RNLI have appealed for donations to raise £100,000 to build a new onsite workshop.
Last month a £100,000 appeal was launched to fund a mechanic’s workshop in the new boathouse.
Text RNLI MOELFRE to 70300 to donate £5 to the appeal. For a fundraising pack call Deborah Ferns on 0790 0607213 or email deborah_ferns@rnli.org.u k.
Worth a donation if you ask me

Sad to hear about the demise of the old station. Moelfre used to be a regular anchorage for us when we got our first boat. I must have been there dozens of times and never got to see the lifeboat launch which must have been a dramatic sight. Good news it was not used but I would have like to have seen a training session.
fwiw - great holding at Moelfre, mud that just engulfs your anchor !

I thought I was being cynical thinking "That's about 0.03% of their cash reserves".

But if they just paid for capital projects entirely out of reserves without doing any special fundraising, their reserves would be a lot less.

The building of a new boathouse is a specific, solid appeal to base fundraising on, more effective than just asking for general donations. So they'd be daft not to take the opportunity to raise extra cash.

If the RNLI has determined that a new station is vital, then I'm sure they would pay for it even if the fundraising somehow failed to raise the full amount. So if you wanted, you could think go it as paying from reserves with one hand, and separately raising funds based on the publicity of a new boathouse, with the other. Money is money.

The new boathouse is vital as the existing one was too small for the new lifeboat now on station .

I don't doubt it but I suspect that anyone other than the RNLI would be looking for tenders at a lot lower than £7 million. Without in any way questioning the dedication and bravery of the crews it seems to me that the organisation always goes for the 'nice to have' options in their boats, gear and structures.

I think on the same lines as Jumbleduck & VyV_Cox, and I wonder what ' £500,000 for repairs ' would translate to for anyone else ? Probably a quick trip to Homebase and £50.00 !

If the slots in the screwheada aren't all aligned, the lifeboat won't float. Everyone knows that.
