Re: Plague is old hat

Ken,
You're getting a tad grumpy, get out more, go sailing. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Am I the only one that views other ships, even fast moving commercials, as my lifeboat when things go bellyup?

. . . And still goes at 27knots when you can't see the pointy end from the bridge!

I like a challenge too, but when I am awoken at 04:00 to take the watch am I glad that Mr. Garmin is telling me exactly where the previous watch have put us.

Re: The stupid thing

is that I have just fitted a new fully integrated instrument system on my boat. O.K. no Radar but Wind, Depth, Log, Electronic Compass all linked to my GPS & I cant wait to get Eleanor back in the water to play with my new toys.

What a way to celebrate 1000 posts. Over 100 hundred responses, a new Forum & a bunch of looneys sailing off into the sunset at the behest of a subliminal suggestion. It'll be hard to forget.

Re: Dedicated board

Looks like we made the ton up despite Tomes attempt at diverting into a new forum. I must confess to feeling rather pleased with myself at the moment, especially if you looneys do pop off for your low tech race. SWMBO went white with fear when I mentioned the trip at home. I think she's got doubts whether the insurance will cough up when it all goes horribly wrong. This doesn't mean that I'm not contemplating tagging along.

I notice Mainly Steam's post, about lifejackets, which is in many ways, in a similar vein to mine. The more nervous of us still seem determined that we need all this extra junk. Don't get me wrong, I love playing with all the electronic gadgets & I wear harnesses/lifejackets when its appropriate, its just that I wonder how conditioned we are to use a lot of this stuff by peer pressure from a lot of nervous, less experienced types, who may have good intentions, that may, or may not, be misplaced.

Re: Were we foolhardy?

Well it depends...mention Christchurch in this part of the world and it means that fantastic English village in NZ....
Now if you sailed from there in your little boat.. then you were foolhardy
