I think I would need to be severely harassed or seasick to rely on that. Not just modern, my fairly old Standard Horizon plotter will do a safe route check to a Goto line.

I think I agree. I have a smartphone while my wife loves her dumb one. In spite of my attraction to novelty, I am often mystified by the sheer complexity of some reported systems, which often use sophisticated modern technology to enable the user to achieve roughly what I have but at less than half the price. There may well be a market for a simple integrated system combining basic sensors, a plotter, AIS and radio. Cheap individual items have their place but don’t achieve quite the same functionality. Is it all just Technology Addiction ? One billion dumbphones in sold 2021 against 1.4 billion smartphones . Claim happier and keeping into reality more often. Will the same happen in marine tech ?
What you are overlooking is that for some of us, sailing is made possible by the use of modern technology. I will not rehearse my situation again, just search for my posts above. Perhaps, when or if you get AMD, you will understand.I think I agree. I have a smartphone while my wife loves her dumb one. I think all I was saying is that it takes all sorts. There are those who are capable of organising an assembly of e-gadgets and making them work for them, and others like me who are only capable of buying off-the-shelf integrated units, and of course those who want nothing of either. What you are overlooking is that for some of us, sailing is made possible by the use of modern technology. Perhaps I should have replied directly to the anderson1947 post to which you agreed.I think all I was saying is that it takes all sorts. I didn't say that it was something I used or relied on. I was pointing out that my 'old' plotter had the facility as do modern ones.I think I would need to be severely harassed or seasick to rely on that.
