Well, I wouldn't rate them much above Windy, strictly in terms of build quality.II would honestly say way better built than SS/Windy et al.
Oooooh yes please.....I had a Performace 1107 some years ago on surface drives with Yanmars, Jeez it was an absolute flying machine, 60 mph no worries, naff all accomodation but it was just awesome performance and hugely built. Sold to it an IT guy who later stuffed it into the side of a cruise ship :-(
I would honestly say way better built than SS/Windy et al.
I have a friend that is interested in a Hawk however most of them are really showing their age. Are there any shipyards that are building models similar to the Sunseeker SuperHawk 34?
Blimey, talk about coincidence!the Superhawk becomes a sort of training toy, when compared for instance to a Fountain 38'
What about a big rib?
When I told my wife I was buying a rib her only input was it had to have:
Sunbed area
Sunshade
Toilet
Fridge
Shower
bathing ladder
Small cabin
Some of the bigger ribs have a good size cabin. Look at the scorpion cabin rib, Revenger 32 has a camper style cabin or one of the larger Capelli ribs if an outboard is an option. Nice and easy maintenance and they can always be lifted and dry stacked.
In fact my first Superhawk 34 is now in dry stack at Saxon wharf.
Actually I would rate them above Windy seeing the hull structure problems I have seen in some of their more recent models coming the Norway builder.
We had a 35 Khamsin here new a couple years ago (2005?) which had structural issues in its first season. Fair to them this model was replaced by Windy, but the replacement model ended with the same issue and this was repaired by Windy staff.
The same fate happened to a 2000 43 Grand Mistral fixed in Italy, and other ninties, early 2000s Windies I do have seen unusual stress cracks for boats only 2 to 3 years old.
Windy's do indeed ride very good but its since mid nineties models do left a bit to be desired from the construction strenght side. May be they should teach their clients to be a bit cautious when they some crackling noise coming from the hull....
Hopefully the newer more recent models have gone away with this. Fair to say that Windy was among the first to go into DIAB core vacuum bagging type construction, and its very normal for many builders to have some issues in the first year in this type of construction, especially if you don't do enough home work.
IMO the best Windies ever are the old 9800 and 8800 those are definitly untouchable!
