Modern adhesives

Aside from all the usual suspects like Sikaflex 292 and 3M 5200 etc, does anyone know the difference between the two SMP Evo-Stik products 'Sticks Like S**t' and 'Seriously Strong Stuff'? Their TDSs are so similar. Seems odd.

Does anyone use them in a marine environment? The performance is impressive, but I wondered if there are any things to be concerned about long-term with UV., salt etc.

Also, does anyone know what this actually is:
No Nonsense X8 Hybrid Sealant & Adhesive White 290ml
It's pretty good as a cheaper solution for less critical uses, but in their opaque marketing it's impossible to tell if it's PU based, or a 'polymer', or SMP. It's only a fiver a tube, so doubt it's the best of the modern chemistries.

The only real difference I can see is that one is trade & the other listed as DIY, possibly different prices & cartridge sizes?

So this looks like something similar to the X8 I listed there, but just a little more expensive as it's branded? Do we know what chemistry or base these 'hybrids' actually are? Any drawbacks?

Yes, I used some last week, for the first time. I had a leaking drain outside and, despite not being able to get it all thoroughly dry, the OB1 has sealed it successfully. Seems to be great stuff.

'Puraflex 40' also seems to work great (maybe the same as OB1?). It has a Sika logo on the back somewhere.

It has held various bits of my van on very effectively over the past few years ? , yet to use it on the boat but would certainly consider it - at least for 'non-immersive' applications.

Puraflex 40 is a polyurethane similar to ( same as ??) the familiar Sika flex adhesive sealants

Puraflex 40 does indeed behave closer to Sikaflex than other ‘ semi-cheap’ alternatives out there..

Once set it APPEARS it might even be petrol resistant ( don’t try this at home folks etc etc) as I tested it on renewing fuel tank grommets on 2stroke strimmer(s) .. 6 months later with full tanks and an unusually busy ? summers useage , all is good. Which pleases me!

And store assistants. The girl at our local Screwfix refuses to even say 'Sticks like' and told us she prefers not to sell it at all.

Does anyone have (or can link to) a table highlighting the main features of the different adhesives and sealants? Strength, stretch , resistance to UV, chemicals etc, ease of removal, ability to paint over. I'm sure i've missed some.

I'd find a quick reference guide really handy. Particuarly for the hybrids.

Same here, was using CT1 for a long time and this is supposedly the same formulation (there was a long thread on this some time ago). Used for lots of different jobs, inside and out and find it extremely effective. I do, however, avoid the clear one which doesn't seem to be as good for some reason...

I have only been using the clear one, so if the coloured ones are better they must be very very good.?

I've been using the Screwfix X8 recently, it's a little runny and takes a while to set but other than that seems very good.

Was not impressed with Screwfix X8, slow to cure and too sticky to work with. Screwfix OB1 excellent, now use it as an alternative to CT1, which is terrific stuff for all sorts of jobs.

It's good once cured, but yes it's slow. That said, it's faster than 3M 5200. I had two Christmases pass before that stuff cured. It's also half the price of OB1 with four colour choices. It's certainly not easy to spread or handle easily - it spiders into a web given half the chance.

I agree that a matrix with all these sealants and adhesives, comparing performance and chemistry would be useful. But it would be time consuming, with little thanks!
