More like a Morgan. Medieval architecture, uncomfortable, wet in bad weather and has to be wrestled away from anything other than a straight line. Typically driven by 70-year-old blokes in denial about any technical advances since Ug made wheels out of two stones and put them under his sled.

Hmm; maybe it is like a Bristol, as well.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nordhavn then. built like a humvee, that is the military spec. not the pimp bling hummer that is just about useless and thirsty/unreliable

and i dont think anybody has mentioned. Grand banks, Riva, Pershing, mainship, mochi, and what the hell is a wally craft then? surely some dutch steel like a boarn or a vim van must be volvo's?

I'd actually say Sunseeker is Porsche. A volume manufacturer of good quality products most renowned for their sportiness, but who's biggest offering looks a bit silly (apologies to Cayenne owners and Eddie Jordan)

I have here a report ... It broadly agrees, as i would, with all the above posts, especially Jez's above

[/ QUOTE ]Mmmm... really? What was exactly the scope of that report?
Aligning Princess, Fairline and Sealine to Audi, BMW and VW respectively can only make sense if the analysis was restricted to UK players.
Which wouldn't be consistent imho, the German car makers are global players.
And in this perspective there's a numer of contenders for the Audi and BMW image ranking, against which I'm afraid that neither Princess nor Fairline would have much chances.

The question was about the big brands in THIS country. ANd while I agree that the car makers are almost all foreign, I was considering their percieved attributes as seen in THIS country.

Hence, I think the camparison is valid. There can be more than one boat manufacturer that is like any one car maker, it is just an illustration to give some parity between the brands.

Basically, get of you italian (hobby?) horse!

But hang on a min, surely more akin to DeLorean, think about it.

Ehi, did I touch your nationalist nerve a bit!? I don't understand why, though.
Firstly, the initial question of the thread actually was NOT about the big brands in UK (or in any specific Country, for that matter), unless I don't understand english anymore.
Secondly, I did not raise an argument against your or jfm's opinions - they're as respectable as anyone else's view of course.
I was just surprised to read of a report made by professionals along those lines (and hence I asked about its scope!) because that's what I don't understand.

Er, I would'nt want my products equated with Maserati which have an excellent reputation for being unreliable, uncomfortable, fall out of bed depreciation wise and fly off bends backwards. I will concede that the products may be getting a bit better recently although there's no hiding the fact that they are Fiats
You can't have Ferrari 'coz Pershings are Ferraris /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It was an international but somewhat UK-centric report, so your guess was right. But hey this car-boat analogy kinda runs out at a certian point. You just can't take the analysis too far. The most expensive cars (ignoring outlyers like Veyron etc) are a couple of hundred thousand GBP and the cheapest is say £10k. Boats stretch much further than that. There are limits in how far you can take this comparison.

I think Houghn was as close as you can get with his Sunseeker=Porsche theory. There is a little bit of blingyness with the sunseeker brand, as there is with Porsche

Maserati's have virtually no parts from mainstream Fiat's, but lots shared with Ferrari (the engine for a start). I just sold a QP after 3 years with 40% dep'n, and biggest problem in the time I owned it was a faulty headlamp motor. The German motoring press, who aren't normally very pro Italian (they think FIAT stands for "fur Italien, adequate technik"), voted it the best exec saloon.

Admittedly the older design sports cars are a bit odd looking around the c-pillar, but the new Gran Turismo is gorgeous.

All IMO of course, and sorry for the fred drift
