MoBo Snobs ???

I think there is some truth in the suggestion that as people's boat increases in size their willingness to engage on conversation and invite you aboard decreases. To some extent it might be trepidation on the part of those approaching.

Whilst in Salcombe a couple of weeks ago I recognised a large grey boat the other side of the fuel barge as being the one which lives on the hammerhead a couple of boats down from our boat in Haslar. I have admired it from the moment it arrived a little while ago, very practical clean lines and a huge chunk of floating real estate. I would have loved to dinghy over and say hello but you just don't to an 80 foot plus multiple-million pound super yacht.

So probably a bit of a case of both sides being stand-offish. Funnily enough I commented to Mrs Henryf that in some ways owners of larger boats miss out on the interaction.

Henry :)

that's a nice angle to look at it Henry:cool: came away with a similar feeling during a New Years eve bash in Majorca... I have a friend who has a villa there overlooking Palma harbour so naturally we went there to ring in the new year, met loads of revellers, all very friendly having a whale of a time apart from this one pair... they opened their mahoosive patio doors to their super yacht, took a look at the fireworks for a millisecond and went back inside to watch from afar via their rather large plasma TV in the saloon... each to their own but I wasn't at all jealous that night, I felt rather sad for them in a way.. maybe they just enjoy their own company and the boat's got bugga all to do with it, introvert v extrovert sort of thing

I was in Salcombe a couple of weeks ago and saw a very nice large grey large hunk of floating real estate at anchor in the river just below our mooring mid river opposite the town quay, when we left and went up to Weymouth it turned up there too, its funnay as I made the same comment to Mrs Oaf about how they seem to miss out on the 'crack' as they have to be out on their own because of their size and because they are posh, I too wanted to go and have a chat with the bloke as he looked quite fed up when standing on his gunwales looking at us smaller boats. I did here it is up for sale so i was genuinely interested but then i thought that he wouldn't want to speak with me!

We where moored next to a huge sunseeker in st Kats last winter, shame cos our boat looked big till he arrived :o Guy brought it in single handed which was quite impressive. He seemed every bit as daft as I am & pleasant enough.

I have a vision of jfm launching his Laser and then sailing around Match hurling insults at himself .... :o:o:o

Apologies jfm, but it's such a stupid post it deserves a stupid reply.

:D :D :D Thanks G_o_g - that's funny (I think I have a picture of it somewhere) and nicely illustrates how daft this thread is. :-)

I agree with you: stupid thread and not worth any proper reply.

Have to say, I will chat with anyone and everyone and I couldn't care less what boat they have be it big, small, new, old or with a hole in it. Whether or not they want to chat with me is another thing entirely :) but if they want to come aboard for a cuppa, they are more than welcome, anytime.

interestingly I am often accused of talking to myself, therefore I can honestly say as both a mobo owner and raggie I get on with myself quite well.... however one side of me does often feel superior & I always thought that to be the raggie side of me coming out, or it may just be my schizophrenia

I'd still chat to both of you :)
