Of course, yours is a sweeping generalization, for which there are indeed exceptions.
But overall, in spite of all previous comments, I must say that also in my experience what you're saying is often true.
I just don't get why you throw into your question the old raggies/moboers troll, 'cause I've yet to meet anyone on a Wally maxi yacht who isn't as snob as it gets.

Personaly,I desperately want a yacht (meaning a normous MoBo) with so many decks that poor people will get a pain in the neck just trying to see me and you will need an oxygen mask* on the fly just to breathe due to rarified atmosphere.!
*This will of course be a proper authorised and monogrammed Fairprinline mask as seen on page 69 of the extras book available at an outrageous price.

My experience as a complete newcomer who does not even have a boat YET, is that I have generally found nothing but a helpful attitude from all. There have been several posts on the mobo forum from people just starting out with relatively small and inexpensive boats and as long as they are not complete muppets they get helpful and constructive advice from people running some very large, very expensive mobo's.

well his childish comments haven't exacly had the universal support from his fellow yachties I'm sure he hoped for. No surprise all the yachties I meet are nice people!
if you haven't looked my favourite quote in the yachtie forum says he....."displays ignorance and arrogance to an incredible degree.
For whats its worth, I own and skipper a sailboat, my professional job is master of a 6500 tonne anchor handling tug with 200 tonnes bollard pull. I have probably forgotton more bits of seamanship than Mr Sandyman ever knew."
Perhaps he's lying low to avoid the flak, or maybe working out how to pen an apology

I think i know the type of person the OP is reffering to. Im moored in the geto with raggies, mobos and wrecks that may one day be worked on, all are massively friendly and helpfull.
I have also experienced with someone else being sneered at in a scrappy boat as if we dont belong on the water, but this happens in all walks of life, just smile a freindly smile and carry on me way

Snobbery does exist in all forms of leisure pursuits, and life in general, I have been boating for most of my life and it is also how I earn my living, I see snobbery from a lot of boaters regardless of their type of craft, however, how many people see someone in a 'posh' boat and automatically presume that they are going to be a snob, just because someone has a nice boat doesn't make them a snob, regardless of the type of craft.
If it wasn't for the diversity of all types of boats and their colourful owners the waterworld would be a sad place!.
