Mobo rescue south of Isle of Wight today.

F7-F8 and minus 2'C.
Not exactly ideal conditions to be out there voluntarily.
Any fish you caught would be immediately frozen...

Total mechanical and electrical failure...not a great recipe for success when you need to pump water out :ambivalence:

I'll bet those manual bilge pumps were being worked hard...

Lucky the Bembridge lifeboat was able to depart from a marina that was starting to freeze over...

Isn't Bembridge lifeboat the one that deploys down that massive ramp into the sea?
Either the boat or the ice would break at the bottom of the ramp :)

Often wondered about that. There is a big bouy nearby. But also could nip into Bembers if there's water, if not, where do they go?

They had fore and aft bouys they can go onto just off the ramp, or Bembridge, or anywhere else really. You can moor a lifeboat wherever you like :)

Don’t know what the recovery limit is weather wise. I was onboard for a demo day many moons ago. Watching the skipper put the keel in the ramp slot backwards in a decent swell was a thing to behold. Martin Woodward was the skipper. Force of nature that chap. If you get the chance, go to the shipwreck museum, it’s worth a visit. Think it’s moved to arreton barns. Pretty much everything in it was brought up to the surface by Martin. Fascinating bloke.

But the crew will want to be on the Island, which if low tide means Cowes. I guess its not often, but could be a right pain.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take my little man to the shipwreck museum, although I think Tapnell Farm wins,

+1 for Museum visit, went there years ago, very good, when I fished with the now Selsey Coxswain he knew Martin Woodward and had very good things to say about him.

Used to - the old lifeboat station was converted into a fancy dwelling and was used for one of those 'Amazing Places' style programmes, so it would likely be a sofa with someone's SWMBO aboard sliding down the ramp now.

That's a very big orange coffee table they have in their fancy dwelling:
