I don't know about the rest of you, but I've really enjoyed the forum content this year and feel there has been some superb reading/entertainment? I guess a bit of decent weather helps and it certainly given us some inspiring trip reports, I was trying to recall my best thread of the year, but with all the great content, I couldn't really choose...

There was a host of great write ups, but Henry F's 'A long weekend on the boat' was probably my favourite and I'm just a bit envious that I don't get weekends that long... ;-) http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?369331-A-long-weekend-on-the-boat

One of the other topics I personally really enjoy are the rebuilds - partly because of the efforts involved and following the thoughts and methods of others, but also because I like to see old and tired boats getting a new lease of life. Looking forward suggests there will be some great content in 2014 too with a glut of new build and restoration threads! For me the 2013 the project of the year however has to be Vas's - out of shear tenacitiy and effort if nothing else and I can't wait to see the finished article! http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?296044-MiToS-re-built-fit-versilcraft-Mystery43

The most amusing thread was difficult too as there have been a few good ones, but for me Guster's Ocean Crossing thread was very good - probably because I feared he was serious! http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?365939-Ocean-crossing-in-a-25-cruiser

The weirdest thread of the year for me was uncontested - the Barbados Boat License by Caribbean Colin where some dude got into a full-blown argument... with himself it would appear! Sadly that got pulled but a follow up thread survived: http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?363773-Barbados-Boating-and-regulations - still have a chuckle over that one... Where are Barbados Skipper & Barbados SkipperV now I wonder?

So which were everyone else's top forum reads of 2013? :D

Certainly Henry's long weekend was a favorite of mine. Probably JFM's Match 2 slightly tops as it ran for many months, with regular updates, and Vas's Mitos, for the same reason. I am not going to pick a winner.

Thank you very much, I'm honoured !

Setting off on a somewhat different voyage tomorrow. Won't be able to post as I go, I may well do something once I've returned assuming we make it back. There is a video planned.

This one is going to be tough. Have been in training for the past 4 months. Taking a massive hit for the troops........

Henry :)

Sounds intriguing H. Good luck with the trip, and looking forward to hearing all about it. Will you be back in time to share with us on the 9th Jan at LIBS?

Does it involve jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft at any point? :)

Henry :)

I too am planning some Christmas shopping this week, got to admit I have not done so much training as you, I hope I will make it.

Henry's long weekend thread gets my vote for best read of the year. Also liked the forum dive report. Agree MBF did have some great content this year. Unfortunately the lounge has deteriorated to a frivolous and unpleasant nut house of vacuous content, but at least it keeps the angry lonely heart nutters off ths forum. Looking forward to more photo cruise blogs, technical info threads and good boating stories next year.

Rafiki did mention it, and fwiw I agree that it could have deserved the virtual cigar, if it weren't for what Vas did (and is still doing), which is beyond belief... :)

+1.
For most of it, that is.
There's still some valuable thread if we're honest, but finding it within the rubbish just takes too time/effort.

How come JFM's Match2 build thread hasn't been mentioned as 'the one'

This thread was intended as more of an invite for everyone to recap their best reading of the year - rather than a virtual award shortlist  There were so many really good threads IMHO this year that I could probably have listed 20 or so for 'top reading'... OceanFroggie also did a couple of great trip reports and I've certainly added a few more locations to my 'target destination' wish list as a result...

I did consider adding the Match 2 myself but for me the Match 1 thread was probably more informative - not because of anything JFM did/didn't post on either, just that Match 1 was an epic thread and so much of it was 'new' (for me anyway) I'm not saying the sequel wasn't good - it was - and I kinda hoped others would list and now you have! :)

Agreed :(

Yup, it is a bit pointless trying to rank things and much easier /nicer to recall the highlights.

Vas's thread is fantastic, and tells quite a story. As well as plywood there's a lot of human interest in it: there is the wonderful George of course, and then you gotta remember Vas speaks/writes/lectures @uni on architecture and has wife and kids, I mean it's not like he has all the time in the world to play with boats. So I have this vision of him driving at 300kph between all his commitments just so he can squeeze 36 hours into every day.

Henry's long weekend was also great reading. Throughout the year Henry's and Scubaman's photography has consistently amazed us all. (Scubaman/Kivi shoots all his own stuff of course, whereas Henry gets Emily to do it. :D :D). Latestarter1's tech content and entertaining "no bullshiit"posting style has made great reading, and let's not forget Rob71's wonderful reality-post from a few weeks of helium pressurized saturation diving, as well as his new build about to start. And then remember Ellesar's fantastic project turning a Spanish unloved boat into a crisp flybridge that looks about a year old - that was great stuff too. Hurricane's trip reports and tech gadgetry have also made great reading, and he deserves a special long termer's prize becuase he has been writing that kind of great material for perhaps 10 years or more. MapisM's erudite observing of boating matters (very fast and very slow, but not so much in between, haha :D:D) and the sea has been as enlightening as ever, and he surely gets a similar "long term" cigar. The grand master version of the long term medal/cigar goes to HLB/Haydn of course. Michaf joined during the year and I have loved his aerial photography - I hope he posts many more of those videos. That's quite a long list, but that's because this is a pretty good forum. I've probably forgotten several others I should have mentioned, dang

Yup. I don't look in there much any more

Forgot about robs tails from the deep!!! I checked in on that every few hours. Absolutely cracking.

How about threads that should have been: Forum member buys slight fire damage nordhavn rebuild thread, 50ft of grey steel is started, JC crashes match2 into harbour whilst driving with feet on helm :D:D:D

very fast and very slow, but not so much in between, haha
LOL, guilty as charged!

Understood/agreed (also in reply to rbcoomer) re. the "no ranking" approach. And also on all the examples already made.
If it weren't that having been a participant I'm a tad biased, I'd mention also the FDC...
...then again, I think it's fair to mention it in honour of the organiser, whose BA mod threads were also quite interesting, btw.
