Add two of oxygen

guess wot they will Tax next /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

one really strange fact on the Mobo forum, one chappie spent £800 on fuel & £1200
on engine service /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Does an atom of oxygen weigh the same as one of carbon then?

Just asking.

I feel inhibited the last two(befor last) hear haveing seen a post in which i was spoted escapeing from persecution, unfortunatly my navigation caused me to miss the Uk and wash up on an uninhabited island where i was refused any subvention!

Im still sailing about looking for the UK where its said the streets are paved with gold?

Carbon Atomic Number 14

Oxygen Atomic Number 16.

CH oil approx 14

Co2 approx 46

8 tonnes x 46/14 = 26 tonnes

But CO2 is not the same as carbon. There are those who rail against carbon, those who rail against carbon dioxide and thse who rail against methane (CH4) as produced in huge amounts by rotting vegetation, bovines and so forth. I wish "they" would make up their minds:-)

CH oil at 14 is rather iffy:- from Wiki

"Hexadecane (also called cetane) is an alkane hydrocarbon with the chemical formula CH3(CH2)14CH3. Hexadecane consists of a chain of 16 carbon atoms, with three hydrogen atoms bonded to the two end carbon atoms, and two hydrogens bonded to each of the 14 other carbon atoms."

and this has a molecular mass of, in round terms, 225, the C16 bit being important. The sum above becomes 46/225 = 0.204. Of course, the sum might be the wrong way up, its been a long time since I have needed to work this sort of thing out:-)

1 molecule contains 16 carbons which grab 32 oxygens when combusted, so nuffink changes. We can ignore the hydrogens cos two of them hold hands, nick one oxygen and turn themselves into water , which we ain't too worried about.

Essentially one litre of burnt diesel creates 2.69kg of CO2.

Talking to a chap in my marina last year, drives a Princess 65?, 2 bloody great MAN deisels, at full song drinking 270 litres a hour, 4500 litre tanks, that will have to hurt. Still if you can afford aPrincess 65, what's £4500 between freinds.

That's bigger than my fuel tank. I can just manage to burn 45l per hour, which I can't really afford to do that often anyway (where legal), so usually its about 5l/hour.
